Best Vegan Savoury Snacks To Make At Home

With veganism becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle choice for a healthy body and healthy environment, we have listed some of our favourite vegan snacks to make at home:

Rice Cakes

This is an easy hack for when you're on the go and have little time. Simply apply your favourite topping, such as hummus, avocado or peanut butter to a rice cake. Sprinkle on some chilli flakes, chia seeds or flax seeds and enjoy.

Tofu Bites

Take a block of extra firm tofu and squeeze out any liquid by gently applying pressure with a tea towel. You can place a heavy item such as a book on top to help further remove the liquid. The drier the tofu, the crispier the tofu bites! Cut the tofu into small cubes. In a pan, mix together soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, pure maple syrup, ground ginger, garlic powder, cornstarch and water. Whisk the ingredients together and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat, and once cooled add in the tofu cubes to marinate. The longer you leave the cubes, the more flavourful they will be! After some time, pan fry the tofu or place the cubes in an air fryer. Add rice and vegetables to make this a full meal. The tofu can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for around 3 days.

Aubergines Pizzas

Take an aubergine and lay it on its side. Make cuts through its width, rather than its length to get aubergine rounds. Apply some olive oil and garlic powder to the rounds. Finally, add some tomato sauce, vegan cheese, salt, pepper and any other toppings that you normally put on pizza. Place in the oven at 180 degrees for 15 minutes. Leave to cool down for a while and enjoy!

Crispy Kale

Wash and thoroughly dry a large batch of kale leaves. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the kale leaves on.  Sprinkle some olive oil and salt onto the leaves and place in the oven at 170 degrees. Remove when the texture is crispy enough for your liking. Sprinkle on some nutritional yeast for an added kick.

Stuffed Peppers

In a bowl, mix together half a block of vegan Greek cheese, a tablespoon of olive oil, salt pepper and dried dill. Take your mini sweet peppers on a chopping board to remove the stem and deseed them. Stuff the hollow centre with the creamy sauce and enjoy.

Sweet Potato Nachos

Slice up a sweet potato into thin circular shaped pieces. Add to a bowl and cover in hot sauce, olive oil and salt and pepper, place in the oven at 180 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Flip the pieces over and leave for another 10 minutes. Place the sweet potato rounds on a place and add some vegan cheese. You can make your own vegan cheese at home by mixing two boiled carrots, a potato, ½ a cup cashew nuts, 1 ¼ cups almond milk, the juice of half a lime, salt, pepper, cumin and turmeric to a blender. Add any toppings to your nachos to make this more filling.
